  • 8 GB more memory, 120 GB more NVMe.
  • Dedicated cores: your server never waits for a core another customer is using.
  • Headroom for busy evenings, more players, and the mods and updates you add later.

Published requirements

How the model is built

Memory
3 GB plus 100 MB per player. Developer (Iron Gate) publishes no RAM spec. Community sizing guidance: a fresh vanilla world starts around 3 GB; a full 10-player vanilla server settles around 4 GB. baseGB=3 plus 100MB per player reaches 4GB at 10 players, matching that anchor. Actual usage tracks world size/exploration more than player count.
CPU
4 cores, one more for every 10 players. World generation and simulation are CPU-heavy and not well multithreaded, so clock speed matters more than core count. A quad-core (i5-class) covers the full 10-player vanilla cap, per GameRevolution's self-hosted spec.
Disk
2 GB for the server plus 3 GB for saves and backups. Server binary needs about 2GB (GameRevolution and Iron Gate setup docs). World save files are small individually but grow with exploration and backups; 3GB extra covers multiple world saves/backups.
Bandwidth
150 kbit/s of upload per player. Iron Gate's official guide gives no bandwidth figure. IONOS's setup guide cites roughly 1-2 Mbit/s upload as sufficient for a server; spread across a full 10-player server that is about 150kbps per connected player.
Mods (BepInEx)
Memory times 1.5 for some and 2 for heavy; a heavy load also adds a core.

Iron Gate's official dedicated server guide covers setup and ports only; it does not publish CPU or RAM requirements. Hardware figures here are derived from a widely used hosting guide and community sizing guidance, not the developer. Vanilla max players is a hard-coded 10.

Before you set it up. The ports it listens on and what the guides say drives its load.

What drives the load

  • RAM usage tracks world size and how much has been explored more than raw player count; an old, heavily explored world needs more memory than a fresh one with the same player count.
  • The dedicated server process is not heavily multithreaded, so CPU clock speed matters more than core count.
  • Vanilla servers are hard-capped at 10 concurrent players; going higher requires a server-side mod such as MaxPlayerCount, which is non-standard and not officially supported.
  • Iron Gate (the developer) does not publish official CPU or RAM requirements for the dedicated server binary, only setup instructions; the figures here come from widely used hosting guides and community sizing data.

Valheim server questions

How much RAM does a Valheim server need?

About 3.5 GB for 2 players and 4 GB for 10, before mods (bepinex). Developer (Iron Gate) publishes no RAM spec. Community sizing guidance: a fresh vanilla world starts around 3 GB; a full 10-player vanilla server settles around 4 GB. baseGB=3 plus 100MB per player reaches 4GB at 10 players, matching that anchor. Actual usage tracks world size/exploration more than player count.

How many CPU cores does a Valheim server need?

4 for 2 players, 4 for 10. The server is single-thread heavy, so the clock speed of one core matters more than how many cores it has. World generation and simulation are CPU-heavy and not well multithreaded, so clock speed matters more than core count. A quad-core (i5-class) covers the full 10-player vanilla cap, per GameRevolution's self-hosted spec.

How much bandwidth does a Valheim server use?

About 150 kbit/s of upload per connected player, so 1.5 Mbit/s with 10 players online and about 170 GB a month if 35% of that cap is online on average. Iron Gate's official guide gives no bandwidth figure. IONOS's setup guide cites roughly 1-2 Mbit/s upload as sufficient for a server; spread across a full 10-player server that is about 150kbps per connected player.

Which Clouduxe plan should I pick for Valheim?

For 10 players, VPS Growth fits the load and VDS FusionCore leaves room to grow. Every plan includes DDoS protection: 17 Tbps of upstream mitigation plus Clouduxe Prism on the server.
